SOUND ARMADA RADIO podcast

Last friday the unfortunate news reached us that reggae producer Winston Riley died from the effects of a gunshot wound he received last year. He was in a coma since he was attacked and shot in the back of the head in November 2011. The musical legacy that Mr. Riley left behind is astonishing, making him one of the greatest reggae producers of all time. From starting the vocal group 'The Techniques' at 16 yrs old till setting up his own label 'Techniques' and beyond, he gave us countless classics and reggae and dancehall material. This week we pay tribute to his musical legacy with one hour of timeless 'Techniques' tracks! R.I.P. mr. Riley!

In the past weeks the reggae fraternity had to digest 2 big losses. On the 23rd of november, Barry Llewelyn (left), co-founder of the mighty vocal trio 'The Heptones' passed away at age 64 in Kingston Public Hospital in Jamaica. Sadly, last saturday the 3rd of december we lost another giant in the industry: label owner and producer Philip 'Fattis' Burrell (right), from 'Xterminator' fame, slipped into a coma after a stroke at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), and unfortunately didn't recover.
On behalf of SOUND ARMADA we send out our sincere condolances to family and friends of these 2 persons who brought so much joy, wisdom and pleasure through their music and productions. As a tribute, this week 2 hours of Heptones tunes and Xterminator productions. Rest in peace...
